Sarah Corbett's Call to Introverts

As an introvert I find loud and public activism exhausting and dispiriting -- but I still want to speak up when I see a need.

 When I discovered Craftivism I knew I'd found what I was looking for. One of my inspirations is Sarah Corbett of the Craftivist Collective. Her new book, How to be a Craftivist, is practical and useful, and yes, beautiful!




Her intro to activism for introverts is also the featured video on the Ted Talks website today! Watch it for a short (13 min.) introduction to this idea -- an idea that our new CCOS group will try to enact in our work.

A Craftivism Partnership: Amnesty International

During the last Write for Rights Day held by our local Amnesty International chapter, CCOS got involved with a small craftivist project. On Write For Rights Day. Amnesty International chooses 10 cases to focus on for this event each year, and groups hold public events across the world encouraging people to write letters in support of the cases. Our words matter! Our local group has been doing this for 5 years, and every year it grows -- this year there were over 75 participants and 497 letters written. It's a really great event. I've been helping out for the past two years doing a bit of Craftivism. This year I ran the craft table where we were created postcards for two of the individuals featured, and a banner of support for another. Handmade items give people the opportunity to really get their shared humanity across, and to encourage the feel of hands reaching out to one another.
